2023: SHUN EVIL PREDICTIONS AHEAD OF GENERAL ELECTIONS – SANWO-OLU
- As residents gather for Thanksgiving service
As Nigerians prepare for the 2023 general elections, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sunday prayed for a smooth and peaceful transition, urging people to disregard evil predictions of anarchy and violence usually thrown out during election season by fake prophets and enemies of the country.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also enjoined Lagosians to continue to keep faith with his administration, saying that his government has lived up to the excellent spirit associated with Lagos State in line with the THEMES developmental agenda.
He said his administration during his first term in office has delivered many laudable and iconic projects in all the six-pillars of his administration’s development agenda.
The Governor disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari will be in Lagos in two weeks’ time to commission some of the iconic projects by his administration. Some of the projects are the First Phase of the Blue Line Rail from Marina to Mile 2, Imota Rice Mill, First Phase of the Lekki-Epe Expressway and the J Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History, as well as flag-off of Phase II of the Blue Line Rail from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko.
“As we offer our deep and heartfelt gratitude to God, at this thanksgiving, I wish to enjoin all Lagosians to continue to keep faith with us, and rest assured that the Greater Lagos of our collective dream is within reach,” he assured.
The Governor spoke on Sunday at the 23rd Annual Thanksgiving Service tagged “Praising The Name of God,” organised by the First Family of Lagos State in conjunction with the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.
The Thanksgiving Service, which coincided with the 56th birthday of the First Lady of Lagos, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, was celebrated by thousands of Lagos residents who attended the event as she cut her birthday cake with her husband.
Governor Sanwo-Olu said the Annual Thanksgiving Service, which usually took place at the Lagos House, Ikeja since its inception in 2000 was held in TBS this year to give the opportunity for a greater number of people to participate, in line with his administration’s policy of inclusion.
He said: “This year’s Thanksgiving is significant because this is a general election year for Nigeria. Part of our supplications to God today is for us to witness another smooth and peaceful transition of government; a transition that will defy the evil predictions of anarchy and violence peddled every election season by false prophets and enemies of our dear land.
“Even as we seek the face of the Lord regarding this transition season, I am certain that the good people of Lagos State will once again choose the team that has been able to fulfill the mandate entrusted to it.
“We have done everything we promised, by the Special Grace of God. We have kept the promises we made to you, this time four years ago, when we were seeking your mandate to administer the Center of Excellence.
“Indeed, we are well on our way to the Greater Lagos of our dreams, and even as we get to the end of our first term in office, our energy has not flagged. We are still going strong, because our goal is to finish strong, and start a new term on an even stronger note.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu also praised his predecessors, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Mr. Babatunde Fashola and Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode for their contributions to the growth and development of Lagos State in the last 23 years.
Speaking earlier, Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Prince Anofiu Elegushi, said all the promises made by Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration in line with the THEMES agenda have received attention in the last four years.
He urged Nigerians, especially Lagosians to continue to commit Nigeria and Lagos State to God’s hand.
During the programme, prayers were offered for Nigeria, Lagos State, 2023 general elections, families, children and youths, among others.

WHY TINUBU MUST GET CREDIT FOR LAGOS TRANSFORMATION, BY SANWO-OLU
- ‘Ex-Governor’s blueprint did the magic’
The contention over the role of All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the wave of infrastructural transformation being witnessed in Lagos State in the last two decades may now be put to rest.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday, set the record straight, saying Tinubu was the brain behind the development master plan being implemented by successive administrations in Lagos, which has elevated governance in the State. This, Sanwo-Olu said, is a fact that could not be denied by anyone who worked closely with the former Lagos Governor from 1999 to 2007.
Sanwo-Olu was the special guest at Your View, a broadly watched show on Television Continental (TVC), where he spoke about his Government’s achievements, his re-election, family values and relationship with the APC presidential candidate.
Lagos is widely believed to be the model for good governance, infrastructure renewal and innovation. The State recently made history as the first sub-national entity in Africa to complete modern intra-city rail infrastructure without federal budgetary allocation – feat widely applauded.
Sanwo-Olu said Tinubu could not be deprived of the credit for the reforms that set the direction for the infrastructural programmes delivered by his successors to transform Lagos to one of the biggest economies in Africa. The Governor, who said his working relationship with Tinubu began in 2002, emphasised that he was a living witness to development of Lagos State Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (LASEEDS) under the leadership of Tinubu.
The LASEEDS document, Sanwo-Olu said, was harmonised with a 10-point agenda document and became the precursor to the Lagos State Development Master Plan (LSDP) that originated from the Lagos Economic Summit (Ehingbeti) initiated by the Tinubu administration.
He said: “With all sense of humility, I joined the Tinubu government over 20 years ago. I was General Manager in my bank before I joined Tinubu in November 2002. From the very first day of my appointment, I was in Tinubu’s cabinet and I saw things first hand. I am a living witness to the development vision put forward by Tinubu. It’s not something we should be blabbing about; it’s a fact we all know. Under the leadership of Tinubu, we set up documents called LASEEDS and SEEDS, which are economic development blueprints for Lagos. We also had what we called a 10-point agenda, which laid the foundation for revenue generation drive, transportation reform and public infrastructure renewal.
“LASEEDS and SEEDS documents were working blueprint for transformation in Lagos. We set up the Ehingbeti Economic Summit to run year on year, where we collate inputs from the private sector and put them in flesh of public documents and generate a working paper we could implement. I was the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, so I was part of those that developed the documents. Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), for example, did not just come out of the space; Tinubu set up LAMATA with the World Bank in 2002. I was part of the first set of personnel that worked in LAMATA, which is one of the best transportation agencies in the world.
“That’s how the blueprint was developed and we had a 20-year development plan for it, which former Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola improved on. He expunged some items and replaced them based on the realities of the period. Former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode did similar thing. Our Government is doing same, because there is continuity. We’re able to see the challenges of previous governments and we decided on those things we can take quickly. Tinubu deserves the credit because he is the one that was able to bake the first retinue of very intelligent people that worked with him to develop implementable blueprint.”
Sanwo-Olu dismissed the speculation in certain quarters that Tinubu had been running Lagos by proxy, noting that the former Governor had since moved to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the last six years where he had been contributing his quota to national development and building the ruling party.
The Governor, however, said Tinubu’s experience in governance qualified him as the right person from whom advice is sought regularly for direction.
“Tinubu is a father and a man that I respect personally. I cannot take that away. Critics always want to say anything, but are we keeping our eyes on the ball? Yes. Are we doing the things Lagosians want us to do? Yes,” the Governor said.
On why Lagosians should trust him with another mandate in the coming general election, Sanwo-Olu said: “One of the strongest points of a leader is for people to underrate you. You don’t have to be in people’s faces to get your tasks done. All you have to do is to roll up your sleeves and get the job done. Check out my background, integrity is what I live by. As a treasurer in a bank, my word is always my bond. If I give commitments, I keep to those commitments.
“It is not about me alone. It is about our future and the legacy we should be leaving behind. We have kept faith with all the things we said we would do under the THEMES agenda. With all sense of responsibility, we have performed and earned people’s trust. Let’s join hands and be on this train together. We can imagine what’s coming in another four years.”

Obasanjo: PDP comfortable with endorsement of Nigerians – Aniagwu
Spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council, Mr Charles Aniagwu says the party was not bothered by former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s endorsement of Labour Party Presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi.
He said that while the party would have loved to have the endorsement of the former Nigerian leader like he did in 2019, the party was comfortable with the numerous endorsements from Nigerians across the country.
Speaking on AIT Television programme: “Kakaaki”, on Monday, Aniagwu, who is also the Delta State Commissioner for Information, said Obasanjo is one leader that enjoys respect across the country but the party is quite happy with the endorsements it has received from Nigerians which could be seen from the different rallies held thus far.
“We have organic convergence of Nigerians in all our rallies and at the end of the day their vote is what matters than any other thing.
“We would have loved to have Obasanjo’s endorsement just like he did in 2019 when he endorsed and supported Atiku Abubakar because he believed that he had what it takes to take Nigeria out of the current situation.
“Democracy allows you the latitude to make choices and he has made his own choice and we do believe that most Nigerians are already making their own choices and from what we have seen Atiku is already favoured to win this election.
“We don’t have any problem with Obasanjo endorsing anybody because that is his democratic right and you can’t take it away from him but Nigerians at the end of the day will make the ultimate choice of who governs them for the purpose of recovering Nigeria from where we are at the moment,”
Aniagwu said the party would not begrudge Obasanjo for the choice of Obi, rather it will buoy the party to intensify engagements with relevant stakeholders across the country.
“The PDP Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, his running mate Dr Ifeanyi Okowa and indeed our presidential campaign council are not ruffled because we do realise from the beginning that we are going into a contest.
“We knew it wasn’t going to be a roller-coaster and that is why we have continued to interface with Nigerians across the six geopolitical zones.
“In this contest, nobody is an underdog and we do have respect for all candidates contesting this election but we do believe that we stand taller than any of the contestants.
“We are convinced that Nigerians would likely look in our direction because our presidential candidate and his running mate have got the credentials to be able to position our country and recover it from where we are at the moment.
“So if a former President under the PDP has decided to pitch his tent with another person is not something that will ruffle us, it will only strengthen us to further deepen our interface with Nigerians for them to understand that where we are headed that Atiku-Okowa are the only ones that have what it takes to lead Nigeria out of the woods,” he said.
The presidential campaign spokesman said he was happy that Obasanjo in endorsing Atiku in 2019 made it very clear that Atiku has got the experience and described him as “the President for the time”.
“I don’t think anything has changed from his views about the capability of Atiku to address the many challenges confronting us today, the challenges have become more severe which requires a man that has got the experience and candour to be able to deal with these issues.
“Our brother Peter Obi was a member of the PDP until not too long ago before he joined the Labour Party, so we do not begrudge him if he now enjoys the support of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
“Most Nigerians do know based on the records of Atiku Abubakar and his running mate Dr Ifeanyi Okowa in the last seven years that these are the individuals that have what it takes to be able to address the challenges of today.
“Atiku has got the reach both nationally and internationally to unify Nigeria and put it on a strong pedestal in the comity of nations and we are very much convinced that Atiku towers far above other presidential candidates and that is why we are looking forward to Nigerians endorsing us because theirs is the ultimate,” Aniagwu added.
On the threat by G-5 governors to pitch tent with another presidential candidate other than that of the PDP, Aniagwu said the party would continue to appeal to them to sheath their sword and join hands to deliver on its rescue mission.
He said Wike’s actions in recent times are inimical to democratic norms and ethos and pleaded with the Rivers Governor to respect the democratic rights of citizens of the state to freely support their preferred candidates without hindrance.
“We will continue to plead with our leaders who are members of the G-5 because we believe that working with us will smoothen our ride to Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
“We also recognise their democratic rights to make choice but as they do so they must recognise the role the party has played in their lives and that is why we are asking them to sheath their sword and return home.
“Much as we desire that there should be peace in the party, a peaceful Nigeria is much more than any group and PDP being a group is desirous of a peaceful Nigeria,”
He urged Governor Wike to thread softly in Rivers, adding that his recent actions strangulating opposition views in the state was not good for democracy.
“Governor Wike has to a very large extent progressed in error and we will continue to plead with him that this democratic journey is very important to Nigerians and as such it will not be tolerated by Nigerians for him to continue taking actions that are inimical to the growth and development of democracy in Nigeria.
“Revocation of Certificate of Occupancy of those who tend to have divergent views with him is not in line with democratic norms and principles.
“Hounding members of the party that don’t agree with him is not also in line with democratic ethos and so while we allow him to have his own choice, he should respect the rights of those who gave him the power which is of course transient and would be over in 5 months time.
“If Wike doesn’t like Atiku and Okowa he should think about what the party has done for him right from when he became Chairman of Obiakpo Local Government Council to becoming two time governor of oil-rich Rivers state.
“Let him respect the fact that the party has done well for him and return home to help the party to win the election.
“This is important because where we are now is not a period for acrobatics but a period to begin to rebuild, recover Nigeria and doing so we need to march together in one accord as members of the PDP which is the only party that is well positioned to lead Nigeria out of the woods,” he stated.
Presidential Ticket: Okowa didn’t betray anyone – Spokesman
Chief Press Secretary to Governor of Delta, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, on Monday said the Vice-Presidential Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, did not betray anyone in the party’s presidential primary.
Speaking at a news conference in Asaba, Ifeajika said that as a loyal partyman, the governor heeded PDP’s directives and decisions in all matters concerning the presidential convention.
He recalled that the Southern Governors’ Forum in a meeting in Asaba resolved, and later reiterated in subsequent meetings in Lagos meeting and Enugu to work towards the realisation of Southern Presidency.
Ifeajika pointed out that Southern Governors’ Forum comprised members from various political parties, and that the resolution of the Forum was only a wish which was not intended to compulsory on all political parties.
According to him, when members of the forum returned to their various parties, decisions varied as each political party had different plans to approach the process of electing a presidential candidate.
“For us in PDP, the party told the Governors that it may not go with their position because we are in opposition and in order to get it right, the party set up a committee headed by Benue Governor, Samuel Ortom, to advise it appropriately on zoning of the ticket.
“The Ortom committee, in its wisdom, recommended that zoning be jettisoned to allow all aspirants to participate in the primary to enable the best to emerge.
“The committee presented its report to the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) where it was agreed to open the presidential ticket to enable for the best hands to emerge as recommended.
“As far as we are aware, no member, including the governors or group protested the party’s decision. They all acquiesced and accepted the party’s decision on zoning.
“There was no treachery anywhere because no agreement was reached. The party’s position prevailed and delegates at the Presidential Primary voted as they wished,” he said.
Ifeajika said that long after the primaries some persons were still talking about betrayal, and wondered where the G-5 governors were when the Ortom Committee presented its report.
“Why didn’t they raise their voices against the party’s decision not to zone the ticket to any part and rise against it?
“They agreed to it, participated, only to start an agitation without foundation after a candidate had emerged.
“I see the G-5 Governors agitation as a distraction and I appeal to them to sheath their sword a beat a retreat as quickly as possible to join the party’s rescue mission.
“They remain very senior members of PDP and they remain an important factor because the next election is a low hanging fruit for the PDP to pick if we close ranks. We believe that Nigerians would vote for the party,” he added.
On the G-5 governors agitation for the sack of Ayu, Okowa’s spokesman said it was a constitutional matter which ought to be addressed at the appropriate time.
“In Rivers state where Wike holds sway as Governor, the Governorship candidate is from Rivers South and the Chairman of the party in the state is also from Rivers South.
“We didn’t see Wike tell the party Chairman to step aside because a governorship candidate emerged from same senatorial district with him.
“It becomes germane if Atiku emerges President and the party Chairman remains in office. There is no law that compels Ayu to resign because the North has produced the Presidential candidate, unless he decides to step aside on his own volition.
“One would have thought that having pursued the agitation without yielding results that they will beat a retreat but if they go ahead to endorse another candidate aside the PDP Presidential candidate, appropriate steps will be taken,” he stressed.
On Obasanjo’s endorsement of Peter Obi, he said Obasanjo merely exercised his constitutional right adding that Nigerians may not listen to him.
“You will recall that sometime ago he tore his party card and said he wants to remain a statesman. What he has done is the exercise of his constitutional rights.
“He was against Buhari in 2019 but he later won and that means that many Nigerians didn’t listen to him and that may also play out this time around,” he stated.
2023: Okowa targets over 1m votes in Delta
Vice-Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor of Delta, Sen Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, on Tuesday challenged Deltans to produce no fewer than one million votes for the party in the forthcoming general elections.
Okowa said that the votes would justify his emergence as running mate to the party’s Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and urged the people to make it a reality through their votes “for the good of all Deltans and Nigerians”.
He gave the charge at Ogwashi-Uku during the party’s local government campaigns in Aniocha South and Aniocha North Local Government Areas of the state.
The governor said that his emergence was an act of God because he was at his home when he was chosen to become Vice-Presidential Candidate of the party.
“We have over 3.3 million registered voters in Delta and I challenge us to churn out over one million votes for our party to enable us deliver on our Rescue Nigeria mission.
“The more votes we bring from Delta, the bigger my voice will be in the party and the greater things we will witness in Delta and Nigeria.
“I know that we have won this election already but we need to up our numbers because God has endorsed our election and we are only waiting for the day to come and pass,” hesaid.
He urged the people to go back home and mobilise votes for the party, and affirmed that God had sanctioned the party’s victory at the polls.
“This election is a BIVAS election; so, it is quite different from what we have been having but I am optimistic that we have the numbers to win.
“Let us go back home and collect our Permanent Voter Cards and ensure that we reach out to all our people wherever they may be,” the governor stated.
On the governorship election, he disclosed how God revealed Oborevwori’s emergence to him, and charged the people to support him because God had endorsed him as a worthy successor.
“The emergence of Chief Sheriff Oborevwori as our party Governorship candidate is divine because God revealed his emergence to me and I can assure you that he is a very humble man who will be answerable and accountable to all our people.
“I have known Sheriff for over 30 years and I can assure you all that he is a good man and he will continue to unite Deltans.
“Since we came, God has helped us to continue to unite Deltans and he will continue with our programmes, policies and projects.
“So, let us cast our votes for the PDP candidates and vote out the APC because they have destroyed our unity and brought hunger and insecurity to our land.
“They said they have done their best but their best is not good enough. They have dug Nigeria into a hole but with the help of all of us Atiku-Okowa will bring Nigeria out of the pit,” Okowa stated.
On his part, the Governorship Candidate, Oborevwori, said he had a fine team, which was committed to the development of Delta and assured that he would not disappoint the Anioma nation.
“I have worked with our dear Governor and to have committed to supporting me, it means that I have passed the litmus test.
“I am a unifier and a pan-Deltan and we shall have an all-inclusive government with continuity for all ongoing projects, programmes and policies,” he stated.
In his remarks, State Chairman of the party, Chief Kingsley Esiso, said that Nigerians were tired of galloping inflation, rising hunger and poverty and urged the people to punish APC with their votes.
“You are aware that in May, this year, Nigerians will have a new president that will promote the economy and ensure security of lives and property in the country.
“The ticket is a ticket for Delta because for the first time, the state would be producing the Vice-President of Nigeria,” he stated.
Director-General of the State Campaign Council, Chief Funkekeme Solomon, commended the people for their rousing reception and urged them to translate the support to votes in the elections.
At Issele-Uku, hundreds of ADC and APC members led by Chairman of ADC, Aniocha North, Mr Chris Ogwu and former APC chieftain, Mr Bolum Michael, defected to the PDP.
“We are back home to join the winning team; we have collapsed the structure of ADC in the LGA in all the wards to the PDP,” they stated.
Okowa deplores doctor’s murder, orders urgent investigation
The Governor of Delta and Vice-Presidential Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, has deplored the gruesome murder of a medical doctor, Uyi Iluobe, in a hospital in the state.
The deceased was alleged to have been attacked and killed by the relatives of his patient at a hospital in Oghara in Ethiope West Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, in Asaba, the governor said that the act of the assailants was barbaric and reprehensible.
He charged the security agencies to intensify investigation into the dastardly act, and that they should leave no stone unturned to fish out his assailants and bring them to justice.
Okowa said that the killing of the medical doctor was unjust and unprovoked, adding that it was an act by agents against peace and progress in the state, and should be flayed by every well-meaning Deltan.
He commiserated with the family of the deceased and called on residents in the state to be vigilant and report all criminal-related activities to security agencies.
The governor warned criminals to leave the state, saying that every criminal act would be tracked, unraveled and prosecuted.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta, I mourn Dr Uyi Iluobe, a hardworking medical practitioner, who was gruesomely murdered a few days ago by agents of darkness.
“As a government, we will support the security agencies to do everything possible to unearth those behind his killing and bring them to justice.
“As Deltans, we have a duty to report all crimes and criminality around us to security agencies for prompt action, and I therefore, urge all Deltans to be part of the process of ridding the state of criminal elements,” he stated.
Let’s join hands to rebuild Nigeria, Diri, Obaseki urge G5 Governors
Bayelsa Governor, Douye Diri and his Edo counterpart, Godwin Obaseki, on Tuesday, called on the G5 Governors of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join hands with the party in its rescue mission to rebuild the country.
The governors made the call in an interview with journalists shortly after a courtesy visit to the PDP Vice-Presidential Candidate and Governor of Delta, Sen. (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, at his home in Owa-Alero, Ika North-East Area of the state.
According to them, the PDP has not foreclosed speaking with the G5 governors because we want a strong and united party that will rekindle the hope of Nigerians.
They said that their brother governors in the G5 should be part of their party and work with every other person in the party to ensure a landslide victory for the PDP in the general elections.
“We want a united PDP and at all times, when we meet, we are always focused on the unity of the party and we are not foreclosing speaking to our brothers. Even today, we talked about that.
“We are still calling on our brothers to be part of their own party and work in unity with every other person. So, we are not foreclosing anything.
“We still want our brother governors so that we can visit them the way we have visited our colleague here in Delta, who by God’s grace, will be the next Vice President of this country,” they said.
The disclosed that they were at the country home of the PDP Vice Presidential Candidate to felicitate with him and wish him good tidings in the new year.
“We are here to visit our brother and by the grace of God, the incoming Vice President of the country to wish him good tidings, wish him well for the new year and pray that God Almighty will make our dreams come through this new year,” they said.
Earlier in an interview with journalists, the Delta North Senatorial candidate of the PDP, Prince Ned Nwoko, enjoined the G5 governors to sheath their swords and join hands in enhancing the electoral fortunes of the party in this year’s general election, even as he expressed optimism that the PDP will emerge victorious at the polls.
Delta now medical tourism destination – Okowa
Governor of Delta and Vice-Presidential Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, said his administration had transformed health facilities in the state to topnotch level and were attracting patients from across the country.
Okowa stated this on Wednesday while speaking with newsmen shortly after inspecting level of work at the Advanced Diagnostics Centre; Mother and Child Hospital and Doctor’s Quarters at Owa-Alero, Ika North-East Local Government Area of the state.
He commended the quality of work on the facilities, and assured that the projects would be ready before January 15.
“Obviously, the work here is well done; they are in the last phase and the equipment are already on site and most of them have been installed.
“Today being the first working day, I hope that in the next one week that they would be fully ready and we are hoping that workers will be assume duties latest January 15.
“The workforce is ready; you saw some of them over there at the Advanced Diagnostics Centre. They have done the interviews and they are also giving letters of appointments this week.
“The initial staff required will be on duty on January 15; it is a great work done here and I am quite impressed,” he said.
The governor said that the quality of staff, equipment and services being rendered in the state’s health sector were already attracting patients from neighbouring states.
“The quality of staff, the quality of equipment and services rendered matters a lot in attracting patients.
“I am very sure that is what we will get here like what we are having at the Asaba Specialist Hospital where people come all the way from Anambra and other states of the country.
“I believe it is essentially the same quality of service you will get here even though the equipment here are a little more top-notch,” he added.
Okowa condoles Adesina over mother’s death
Vice-Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, has commiserated with the President, African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr Akinwumi Adesina, over the passing of his mother, Mrs Eunice Adesina.
Okowa in a condolence message by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, in Asaba, described the late matriarch of the Adesina family as a quintessential mother who worked hard to raise a successful family.
He said that the late Mrs Adesina would be long remembered for her business acumen, entrepreneurial spirit and for being a good mother to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
“On behalf of my family, the government and people of Delta, I commiserate with the Adesina family, particularly my dear brother and friend, the President of African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr Akinwumi Adesina, on the passing of their beloved matriarch, Mrs Eunice Adesina.
“The death of a loved one no matter how old is painful but we are consoled with the fact that Mama lived a fulfilled life, which culminated in her children becoming global citizens.
“I urge you to take solace in the good works Mama was known for as we pray to God for the repose of her soul.
“May God grant her eternal rest and comfort all those who mourn her demise,” Okowa stated.
2023: True change coming to Nigeria – Okowa
Governor of Delta and Vice-Presidential Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, has assured Nigerians that a true change was coming to the nation as citizens set to elect new leaders for the country.
He said that the change coming was powered by God and not the type of change promised by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has given to Nigerians.
Okowa gave the assurance on Wednesday in Ughelli at a Prayer Convocation and Silver Jubilee celebration organised by Anglican Diocese of Ughelli with “You are my Battle Axe” as theme.
He said that Nigerians were disillusioned that things were going wrong for the nation, and urged the people to seek the help of God in turning things around for the country.
“As a country, we are crying that things have gone so bad but the prayer of the people can move God to cause a true change to happen in our nation.
“We know that with the situation in Nigeria today, only the living God can redeem us and He is the one that will lay the path and no man can change it.
“I know that I am on the ticket of the PDP as Vice Presidential candidate but I am not going to talk politics here. All I can say is ‘let the will of God be done’
“It is only God that sees the hearts of men and I know that His will will be done for this nation because a true change cometh for this country and it cometh from God and not the type promised by the APC,” he said.
Okowa commended the Archbishop of Bendel Province and Bishop of Anglican Diocese of Ughelli, Most Rev’d Cyril Odutemu, for sustaining the annual prayer conference, saying “there can be no better evangelism than what I am seeing here today”.
“From what I see here today, l thank God for Christ Jesus because this prayer convocation is a very good work for God.
“That at the beginning of the year, you come together to pray to God is the best gift any man can get and in a rapidly changing world when people are no longer interested in the things of God and to see a great crowd like, it’s highly commendable.
“This is a gathering in the presence of God to teach you and renew your faith to enable you relate well in the world. So, I urge you to go out there to be living examples of what God wants us to be.
“Faith is what will take a Christian to greater heights and as long as you believe in your God, there is nothing you cannot do as long as your faith is right with God. Whatever you find to do, do it well and the Lord God will bless you,” he stated.
Earlier Archbishop Odutemu had lauded Governor Okowa for his massive infrastructural development in the state, including the ongoing construction of Orere bridge in Ughelli South Local Government Area.
The annual prayer conference which featured prayer sessions for the nation was attended by thousands of worshippers.
Okowa deplores Gas Park Project abandonment
Vice-Presidential Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor of Delta, Sen (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, on Wednesday deplored the abandonment of Gas Revolution Industrial Park project in Ogidigben in the state by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Federal Government.
Addressing a mammoth crowd at Ogbe-Ijoh during the party’s local government campaigns in Warri South-West and Udu Local Government Areas of the state, Okowa also slammed the APC administration for the moribund Delta Steel Company, Ovwian-Aladja now Premium Steel Company.
He said that as important as the gas revolution park was to the nation and the world, the Buhari administration had failed to ensure its realisation.
He pointed out that the world was moving towards gas as alternative energy source, but lamented that the Federal Government’s ineptitude had put the gas project in jeopardy.
The PDP vice-presidential, however, assured that the Atiku-Okowa ticket would make the project a top priority when elected.
According to him, when optimally harnessed, the gas potential in Warri South West Local Government Area and other oil-bearing communities would significantly boost the nation’s economy and the state as well as the local government areas.
He said that the APC administration lacked creative ideas on how to diversify the economic base of the nation which would have put the nation on a pedestal of sustainable growth and development.
“For over seven and half years, the APC-led administration has failed to bring the Gas Revolution Industrial Park in Ogidigben to reality because they don’t understand the economic potential of the project.
“This is why we must have our own person in Abuja so that we can ensure commencement of the project.
“Let’s vote the PDP to ensure realisation of the project. It will be one of the major projects we will embark on once we take over.
“The whole world is moving towards gas and we have it in abundance and I can assure you that we will focus on it because many countries are looking for gas and we have it in abundance.
“If elected, the Federal Government, under the PDP would pay special attention to the enormous gas in Warri South West Local Government which has been abandoned by the APC administration.
“A PDP Federal Government, if elected, would harness the vast gas potential in the area and other oil-bearing communities in the country to strenghten the economic base of the nation which will also trickle down to the local government areas that produce oil.
“APC has finished Nigeria with their inept administration and we will not allow them to kill us before we act. So, let us vote them out with our PVCs,” the governor stated.
On Delta Steel Company, Ovwian-Aladja, Okowa assured that the PDP would join hands with the core investor, Premium Steel, to revive the moribund company.
“We are already talking to Premium Steel; the state government may invest in the company for the sake of our people that will be employed there,” he stated.
He commended his predecessor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, for his contributions to the party’s campaigns saying, “the work you are doing in reconciling members of our party, we are happy with it and we can’t thank you enough”.
Deputy Governor of the state, Mr Kingsley Otuaro, said he was grateful to Governor Okowa for the construction of Aladja-Isaba road, Madagho Sport road and interventions at the Maritime University, Okerenkoko.
Otuaro said Warri South-West would not disappoint the party, and assured that they would vote for all candidates of the party as they had always done.
Former Governor of the state, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, lauded the people of Warri South-West for being very peaceful and commended Okowa and Otuaro for their contributions to peace and development of the area.
At Udu, the former governor decried the mismanagement of Delta Steel Company, Ovwian-Aladja and urged the Vice-Presidential candidate, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, to work towards reviving the company, when elected.
Governorship candidate of the party, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, commended Otuaro for his laudable contributions to the governance of the state, assuring that he would advance the state further with his M.O.R.E. Agenda.
He said the party had never lost election in Warri South-West and urged them to maintain the status.
In his remarks, State Chairman of the party, Chief Kingsley Esiso, said Deltans had resolved not to vote for people with questionable characters.
He said that Deltans would vote Sheriff Oborevwori as governor because he would live with the people and transform the state with more development projects.
Director-General of the State Campaign Council, Chief Funkekeme Solomon, commended the people for their consistent support for the party since 1999 and urged them to vote all candidates of the party in the elections.
At Otor-Udu, a former APC chieftain and aide of the Deputy President of the Senate, Benjamin Sharta, along with hundreds of his supporters, dumped the APC for the PDP.
He said that they left the APC because of the dictatorial leadership style of APC Governorship Candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and lack of progress in the party.
2023: PDP will revive nation’s economy – Okowa
Vice-Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor of Delta, Sen. (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, on Thursday assured Nigerians that Atiku Abubakar presidency would rebuild the nation’s economy, if elected.
Okowa gave the assurance at Otu-Jeremi during the party’s campaigns in Ughelli South and Ethiope West Local Government Areas of the state, and said that PDP knew how to revive the economy as was the case in 1999 when it came into power after years of military rule.
He, therefore, urged the people to vote massively to cross the one million votes mark to ensure victory for the party, adding that the more the votes, the stronger his voice would be in Abuja.
He said that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had destroyed Nigeria’s economy, with many multinational companies and organizations relocating to Ghana.
Okowa said “we did it when we came in 1999 and took the country to greater heights until APC came with their negative change that brought hunger, poverty, insecurity and unemployment.
“We were doing well as a nation until APC came with their bad change but I am very much convinced that we will win because other parties are struggling.
“All the problems brought into the country by the APC-led Federal Government would be addressed by the PDP presidency, when elected.
“The APC has destroyed the very fabrics of our national development, with insecurity and hunger everywhere in the country. The Atiku-Okowa presidency will ensure that the current challenges facing the nation will become things of the past.
“Atiku will revive the economy of Nigeria because PDP as a formidable political party, knows how to revive the economy.
“When the PDP government came on board in 1999 after long years of military rule, we restored the lost glory of the country by resuscitating the economy to an enviable status.
“Regrettably, when the APC-led Federal Government came on board, they destroyed the economy which the PDP had carefully and passionately built.
“By the grace of God, this time around that l am working with Atiku Abubakar and with the collective support of all of you, we will make Nigeria great again by repositioning the country for sustainable growth and development.”
On the governorship election in the state, Okowa said that PDP candidate, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, possessed all the requirements to be governor and urged the people to support him and all other party candidates in the state.
Deputy Governor of the state, Mr Kingsley Otuaro, said it was very evident from the massive turn out of party supporters that the people of Ughelli South had decided to vote PDP all the way.
“We are happy because from what I can see here we are home and dry as the victory here is signed sealed and delivered, so it is our expectation that you translate this to massive votes for all our candidates,” Otuaro stated.
Former Governor of the state Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan said Ughelli South remained the economic base of the country as hosts to Utorogu Gas Plant but regretted that the people did not benefit from it and urged them to vote Atiku-Okowa ticket for the benefit of the people.
Governorship candidate, Oborevwori, expressed delight at the turnout for the rally and assured that the people would not regret supporting PDP’s candidates.
He said he would complete the ongoing Orere bridge and construct the Okwagbe Modern Market, if elected.
State Chairman of the party Chief Kingsley Esiso said Nigerians were unhappy with the mismanagement of the country by the APC-led federal government and had resolved to vote PDP to recover and rebuild the nation.
At Otu-Jeremi, an APC chieftain and former Senior Legislative Aide to Deputy President of the Senate, Barr. Martins Umukoro led over 140 supporters to join the PDP. Umukoro said the APC in Delta had become a family affair and resolved to join hands with the PDP to rescue and rebuild Nigeria.
:Isoko North PDP Stakeholders Drum Support For Party Candidates
Elders and leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), lsoko North Local Government Chapter have resolved to vote massively for all candidates of the party in the forthcoming general elections.
The resolution was taken after a meeting at the residence of PDP former National Vice Chairman, Elder Emmanuel Ogidi in Ellu, lsoko North Local Government Area.
The leaders also pledged to work assiduously for the victory of the party at all levels and vowed to leave no stone unturned to ensure massive turn out in the polls.
The meeting had in attendance, among others, former Deputy Majority leader of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Leo Ogor, PDP chairman of the PDP in Isoko North, Deacon Godwin Ogorugba, Commissioner representing Isoko nation in DESOPADEC, Dr Paul Oweh as well as Pastor Jonathan Ukodhiko and Barrister Bernard Odior, candidates for the House of Representatives and Delta State House of Assembly respectively
In a welcome address, Elder Ogidi stated that PDP had performed creditably in past elections and admonished the leaders to ensure similar feat in the coming elections.
He urged those aggrieved, especially those who lost in the last party primaries to bury the hatchet, close ranks and work for the party.
“The truth is that primaries have come and gone. We should learn to put that behind us. What we have ahead of us is the general election. We must learn to forgive each other, close ranks and ensure total victory for our party”, he stated.
The former state chairman of the PDP said the party had performed well in the state and therefore should be able to garner the required figure for victory at the polks.
He reminded the people that the state Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, who is the Vice Presidential candidate deserves massive support from the Isoko people and Deltans in general. “We must reciprocate the good things the governor has done for the Isoko people”, he added.
In his remarks, the coordinator of the PDP campaign council in Isoko North, Rt Hon Emmanuel Okoro urged the party leaders to demonstrate greater committment and ensure that the party returns to power at the national level, in addition to ensuring victory for all the candidates of the party in the coming elections.
Dr Okoro, who is the pioneer speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly reiterated that PDP would not settle for anything less than victory at all levels.
He stated the the PDP remained the party of hope for the people as it was keen on rebuilding and restoring the nation after the eight years of poverty and insecurity inflicted on Nigerians by the inept leadership of the All Progressive Congress.
Hon. Okoro said that lsoko North People were aware that the PDP meant well for Nigerians and would join other Nigerians to return the party to the center while also committed to ensuring that the party remained in control of the state following the good records of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and his predecessors.
Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Council, Hon. Christian Iteire said the decision of the people to vote massively for the PDP was borne out of the people’s desire to enthrone a leadership that they could trust as the party had done well in Delta State and it would be a disaster to vote for the APC which had inflicted untold sufferings on Nigerians since 2015.
Delta berates Omo-Agege over warning to banks
Delta Government on Friday slammed Deputy President of the Senate and Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over a purported letter warning banks to stop advancing loans to the state government.
Commissioner for Information in the state, Mr Charles Aniagwu who spoke at a news conference in Asaba said Omo-Agege has no right nor powers to stop the government from carrying out any constitutional action.
Aniagwu said the state government operate an open government and have been transparent and accountable to the people in all its financial dealings.
He said that the APC candidate had failed to tell the people what he intends to do but rather resorted to personality attacks on the governor who was not on the ballot with him.
“First of all, Omo-Agege is not in a position to warn anybody. He is not even a Governor-elect. So on what grounds is he issuing warnings?
“Secondly, you recall that the Bridging Finance that we asked for, we followed all the processes. We do not go through the back door if we need any facility nor just go to the banks.
“So it is not the Social Media that you would hear. Any time that there is a need for us to talk about a facility, we follow the process. First, there would be an EXCO approval, upon which we will go to the House of Assembly.
“After we get an approval from the House of Assembly, we also ensure that we observe all the conditions precedent.
“The N100 billion that was approved, we have not finished accessing it, so how can he now wake up to say that we are now asking for N40 billion?
“So if the man wants to campaign, let him go and tell Deltans what he wants to do; not peddling stories that do not add up.
“You have been in this state, there has never been anytime we take any facility without making it public, because part of the processes includes briefing the media at different levels of the process.
“Imaging somebody who is supposed to be the number two law maker in the country, is warning a bank in the state. He does not even know where his powers stop,” Aniagwu stated.
Aniagwu further said when other leaders were with their constituents during the Christmas and New year celebrations, Omo-Agege absconded and travelled out of the country because he was shying away from celebrating with the people.
“He just returned from the oversea trips to fire a wrong salvo and we are urging and advising our brother who forgot that he was supposed to represent us in Abuja.
“All our federal roads in Delta are totally impassable and while others have been busy negotiating what to take home for their people he was very busy trying to approach the mace of the Senate.
“As a party in the state, we are campaigning based on what have done and on the credibility of Sheriff Oborevwori from the streets of Delta where the yellow revolution is organic in nature.
“We need to remind Omo-Agege that Delta State is home to PDP and if he wishes to contest election in the future he should return to the party and possibly wait until after Oborevwori’s tenure,” he said.
2023: Sovereignty lies with the people not any leader – Aniagwu
Spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mr Charles Aniagwu on Friday said ultimate power to elect leaders lies with the people and not the decision of any leader.
Aniagwu who was reacting to the chants of “Atiku, Atiku, Atiku” at Ibadan during the flag-off campaign for the re-election of Governor Oluseyi Makinde said at a news conference in Asaba that the era of leaders deciding who to be voted for was over as sovereignty lies with the people.
He stated that the reaction of majority of the people at the Ibadan rally was an indication that Atiku Abubakar and his running mate Dr Ifeanyi Okowa were the preferred ticket to rescue and rebuild Nigeria from the ruins of the APC-led Federal Government.
“You saw what happened in Oyo State yesterday, when one man tried to ascribe to himself the powers to decide who the people will vote for but the people expressed their democratic right which is very clear that Atiku Abubakar is their choice.
“We have said severally that our train has left the station but because we have very quality breaks we can always stop to carry hesitant passengers.
“So we will continue to appeal to our leaders, the G-5 governors to sheath their sword and return back to the main fold of the party and join hands with the party to actualize the mission of recovering and rebuilding Nigeria.
“Those who mobilised them did not foresee what they saw and it goes to show that no one man can boast of deciding how the people will cast their votes.
“As we speak I am sure you have seen the level of inflow of people, in this case notable Nigerians from other political parties to the PDP
“We must commend our party faithful in Oyo State for demonstrating that Atiku Abubakar is the right choice for Nigerians.
“We still have time for any of the Presidential candidates who wish to step down for Atiku Abubakar and because we have promised an all-inclusive government they will not be left out as their ideas will be harnessed to achieve our mission of rebuilding this country,” he said.
On the endorsement of Labour Party Presidential candidate by former President Olusegun Obasanjo and elder statesman Chief Edwin Clark, Aniagwu said that the party was not worried as the ultimate power to endorse candidates lies on the people who have already endorsed the Atiku-Okowa ticket across the country.
“As a Presidential Campaign Council we do not begrudge the Labour Party candidate nor the former President, Olusegun Obasanjo on the position taken by the former president.
“Our presidential candidate and his running mate are very much aware from the onset that we were going into a contest with other contestants.
“But we are confident of victory because we have the competitive edge to be able to win because Atiku Abubakar and his running mate tower above other contestants in terms of their experience and antecedents.
“All the candidates have their qualities but like you know in any examination some will score C and some A, both of them have passed the examination but one scored better, Atiku Abubakar and Ifeanyi Okowa are in the A region as far as this election is concerned.
“So if there is an endorsement coming from our former President and Chief Edwin Clark, we recognise that democracy offers freedom of expression as guaranteed in our constitution and if that be the case we do not begrudge anybody endorsing anyone.
“We have already received a whole lot of endorsements from numerous Nigerians who, the ultimate power to endorse resides.
“And because we have continued to interface with the people across the country, most Nigerians understand that Atiku Abubakar and Ifeanyi Okowa tower above other candidates in the contest,” he stated.
Aniagwu stressed that the party would not join issues with anybody castigating the former President or any other person for that matter for speaking out as to their preference.
“What we are interested in is that most Nigerians understand that Atiku Abubakar is in the A region of the endorsement box to be able to bring us out of the woods
“One thing is that every Nigerian irrespective of political parties understand the very parlous state of our country whether in the area of the economy, insecurity or our unity.
“Since we all agree that we have these challenges, the only issue we are yet to agree on is how we intend to address them but when you begin to tick the candidates experience and manifestos, Atiku and Okowa have what it takes to take us from our current situation,” Aniagwu added.
Delta PDP tasks youths on collection of PVCs
The Delta State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Youth Mobilization Committee of the PDP Campaign Council has urged youths in the state to ensure they go to their various registration centres to collect their Permanent Voter Cards PVCs.
The Committee while appreciating the efforts of the youths in supporting the party’s candidates in the concluded Ward-to-ward and the ongoing local government area campaigns, stressed the need for them to collect their PVCs as the only instrument required to cast their votes for the Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, Governorship candidate, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori and his running mate Monday Onyeme, Senatorial, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly candidates.
It is to be emphasised that as at December 2022, there are over 400,000 uncollected PVCs in Delta and that is very worrisome. The party therefore urges Deltans to take steps to collect their PVCs to enable them cast their votes to the party candidates.
To remove bottlenecks associated with over crowding, INEC has decentralised the collection to Ward levels from 6th – 15th January 2023 from 9am – 3pm including Saturdays and Sundays.
Please treat as very urgent and important.

Feb. Polls: PDP Salutes Oyo People Over Overwhelming Support for Atiku Abubakar
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) salutes the commitment and courage of the people of Oyo State for their support for our Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar and all other Candidates of the Party in the 2023 general elections.
Our Party commends the tenacity of our members and supporters in Oyo State for expressing their support for Atiku Abubakar at the flag-off of the PDP Governorship Campaign in Oyo State on Thursday, January 5, 2023, in defiance of attempts to dictate their electoral preference.
The overwhelming chanting of “Atiku! Atiku!” by the resilient crowd in rejection of a request that they follow the dictate of some individuals in the Presidential election summarily conveyed, in one voice, their unnegotiable resolve to vote Atiku Abubakar as the next President of our country.
The people of Oyo State as independent-minded and political savvy have again demonstrated their sobriquet as Pace-setter in the politics of Nigeria by establishing that power lies in the Will of the people and not the endorsement or dictate of any person or group of persons.
Unambiguously, the expression of the people of Oyo State at the flag-off event firmly signposts and reaffirms the support of the South West Geo-Political Zone for Atiku Abubakar and all our candidates in the South West and across the country.
The PDP counsels those seeking to dictate to Nigerians on their electoral preferences to retrace their steps especially now that it is clear that the people are not ready to be swayed by personal, group or sectional consideration in their support for Atiku Abubakar and the PDP.
Nigerians across board have found in Atiku Abubakar the desired integrity, cognate experience, capacity, ability, mental alertness, presence of mind, Pan-Nigeria deportment and required Will Power to unify and lead our nation at this critical time.
Our Party therefore charges the people of Oyo State, the South West Zone and all Nigerians to remain firm in their resolve by coming out en-masse to vote as well as take every measure available in a democracy to protect their votes in the overall quest to rescue our nation from the maladministration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and return her to the path of national stability, peace, economic prosperity and happiness of all, that Atiku Abubakar embodies.

Dragging Buhari into Campaigns Can’t Help You, Atiku/Okowa Campaign Mocks Tinubu
The Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organisation mocks the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for seeking to drag President Mohammadu Buhari into his campaign with the aim to use him (Buhari) to launder his (Tinubu’s) stained image.
It is indeed ludicrous that Asiwaju Tinubu who is badgered with narcotic and many corruption allegation stains is now seeking President Buhari’s presence in his campaign after he had boastfully claimed that he (President Buhari) had no political relevance and could not become President until he (Tinubu) came to his rescue.
Nigerians watched as Tinubu’s publicity derided, scorned and disparaged President Buhari and even demonstrated how, according to him, President Buhari cried after losing election thrice until he (Tinubu) picked him up, wiped his tears and made him President.
Nigerians are therefore wondering what roles Tinubu, who disparaged Buhari as not having political weight, now wants President Buhari to play in the campaign for which he is forcefully dragging him to the arena, if not to smear Mr. President with his putrid stains.
Nigerians are wondering what President Buhari, with his professed aversion to corruption and drug related issues, will be saying while presenting Asiwaju Tinubu to the electorate in rallies, if he ever does.
Will President Buhari be explaining to Nigerians the link the APC Presidential Candidate had with narcotics for which a Court of competent jurisdiction in the United States of America ordered the forfeiture of a gargantuan sum of $460,000 found in Tinubu’s account as proceeds of illicit transactions?
Will Buhari be apologising to Nigerians for approving, as a military Head of State, the execution of a set of Nigerians for a drug-related offence only to now be presenting someone that forfeited money in a narcotic-related matter as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria?
Does President Buhari have answers to the malodourous issues of perjury, certificate forgery and inconsistencies in age, educational qualification and ancestry that are plaguing Asiwaju Tinubu or has President Buhari any explanation on who Asiwaju’s classmate were at the Government College, Ibadan or at the non-existent Aroloya primary school?
Will President Buhari provide explanation for how the picture of former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, was stolen and used to fraudulently depict Tinubu as a bright young man in APC Presidential Campaign documentary?
It has become clear that Asiwaju Tinubu, who does not believe in President Buhari’s political currency and relevance is dragging President Buhari into his deflated campaign as a decoy to transfer his corruption and criminal allegation burdens on Mr. President.
It is however imperative that the APC Presidential candidate should know that it is too late in the day to stage such a political stunt given that his image has gone beyond redemption.
He must learn to face his woes by personally providing answers for the allegations after which he should apologize to Nigerians and quit the Presidential race, since the people have already reached a consensus on his rejection at the polls.
Nigerians are not willing to compromise their determination to rescue our nation by voting in the Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, whose credentials of integrity, hard work, capacity, relevant experience, presence of mind and readiness to deliver have distinguished him to lead our nation at this critical time.

Your Lack of Integrity Has Forced Buhari to Stay Away from Your Campaign, Atiku/Okowa Mocks Tinubu
The Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Organization mocks the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for venturing to speak on issue of integrity, saying his total lack of integrity has forced President Muhammodu Buhari to stay away from his (Tinubu’s) presidential campaign.
Is it not an absurdity that a presidential candidate that is beleaguered by several allegations bordering on corruption, perjury, identity theft, inconsistencies in name as well as alleged narcotics offence, for which he forfeited a gargantuan sum of $460,000 to the United States of America, could muster the courage to address any gathering whatsoever on the issue of integrity.
Has Asiwaju Tinubu defended the identity theft of the picture of former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, which was deliberately used by his campaign organization to portray him as a bright youngman?
The Atiku/Okowa campaign says the continuous absence of President Buhari at the APC presidential campaigns showcases a concern by Mr President that Tinubu, because of his lack of integrity, will lose a free, fair and credible poll at the February 25 presidential election.
Our campaign also holds that President Buhari is distancing himself from the Tinubu’s campaign because of the inability of the APC presidential candidate to provide convincing explanation on his links to the alleged forfeiture of $460,000 to the United States authorities in a narcotics related matter.
We therefore counsel Tinubu to stop dishing empty promises to Nigerians since compatriots are yet to recover from similar events which he led in the past.
We urge Nigerians to continue to give their support to the leading presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the collective drive to rescue and rebuild our nation.

“I love what Akeredolu has done. I respect Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, he has improved infrastructure status of Ondo State. He has restored Ondo State glory in the plantation. Cocoa plantation will fetch fortunes, he has put Bitumen on front burner. He is chatting the path of industrialization of Ondo State. He is making Ondo State a definite tourist destination.” He said.

Reverse unlawful electricity tariff hike, SERAP tells Buhari
Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to “direct the Minister of Power, Goddy Jedy-Agba and the Chairman/CEO, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Professor James Momoh to immediately reverse the unlawful, unjust and unreasonable increase in electricity tariff, which reportedly occurred in December 2022.”
SERAP also urged him to “ensure the investigation of the spending of public funds as ‘investments and bailouts’ by successive governments to electricity distribution companies (DisCos) and generating companies (GenCos) since 2005, and prosecution of cases of corruption and mismanagement.”
Following reported approval by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), electricity tariffs were increased across DisCos in the country in December 2022. Several prepaid customers have reportedly confirmed the increase. Both the Minister of Power and NERC have refused to confirm or deny the increase.
In the letter dated 7 January, 2023 and signed by SERAP deputy director Kolawole Oluwadare, the organisation said: “The increase in electricity tariff would exacerbate the extreme poverty across the country, and undermine the ability of millions of Nigerians to satisfy basic human needs.”
SERAP said, “the increase in electricity tariff failed to follow due process. It is entirely inconsistent and incompatible with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution of 1999 [as amended], the Electric Power Sector Reform Act and the country’s international human rights obligations.”
According to SERAP, “millions of Nigerians continue to live in darkness despite the spending by successive governments of trillions of naira as investments and bailouts to electricity companies.”
The letter, read in part: “the increase is unjustified, especially given the unreliable, inefficient and poor quality of electricity in the country. Rather than providing electricity discounts to poor Nigerians, successive governments continue to give bailouts to electricity companies.”
“We would be grateful if the recommended measures are taken within 7 days of the receipt and/or publication of this letter. If we have not heard from you by then, SERAP shall consider appropriate legal actions to compel your government to comply with our request in the public interest.”
“Your government should have used the report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), which shows damning revelations that some 133 million Nigerians are poor as a basis to improve access to regular electricity supply, and extend electricity to remote rural households.”
“The latest increase in electricity tariff is coming on the heels of the NBC report which shows that over half of the population of Nigeria are multidimensionally poor and cook with dung, wood or charcoal, rather than cleaner energy. High deprivations are also apparent nationally in sanitation, time to healthcare, food insecurity, and housing.”
“Access to regular electricity supply would improve the quality of life of the population.”
“Electricity is an essential public service but millions of Nigerians continue to pay the price for corruption in the electricity sector–staying in darkness, but still made to pay crazy electricity bills. Electricity supply remains inadequate and irregular.”
“Regular and uninterrupted access to electricity is a fundamental human right. Your government has legal obligations to ensure that the operations of NERC and electricity companies do not impair the effective enjoyment of the right.”
“Access to affordable electricity services is a prerequisite for improving the condition of people living in poverty. It is a means to generate other important services that mitigate poverty, bearing in mind that access to electricity facilitates the eradication of poverty.”
“The hike in tariff would increase financial burdens for socially and economically vulnerable Nigerians and further marginalize and disproportionately affect them, and exacerbate their vulnerability to discrimination.”
“The failure of successive governments and high-ranking government officials to prevent widespread and systematic corruption in the electricity sector and to bring suspected perpetrators to justice is the primary cause of the exploitation of electricity consumers.”
“Investigating the spending of investments and bailouts by successive governments in DISCOS and prosecuting anyone suspected of corruption and mismanagement of public funds, and recovering any proceeds of crime would end a culture of impunity in the power sector, and improve access to and affordability of electricity in Nigeria.”
“Successive governments have failed to increase power generation and provide Nigerians with regular and uninterrupted electricity supply, with many electricity contracts shrouded in secrecy, and trillions of Naira going down the drain.
“Section 14(2)(b) of the Nigerian Constitution of 1999 [as amended] provides that, ‘the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.’”
“Under Section 16(1)(a)(b), your government has the obligations to ‘harness the resources of the nation and promote national prosperity and an efficient, a dynamic and self-reliant economy’, and to ‘secure the maximum welfare, freedom and happiness of every citizen.’”
“Nigeria has also ratified the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, which recognize legally enforceable economic and social rights, such as the rights to education, health, safe food and clean water, security, and shelter.”
“Your government also has legal obligations to ensure that socially and economically vulnerable Nigerians including the 133 million the NBC documents as poor enjoy non-discriminatory access to basic household services including electricity.”
“Under Chapter 2 of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria dealing with Fundamental Objectives and Directive Principles of State Policy, high-level public officials have a clear obligation to ‘eradicate all corrupt practices and abuse of power. Furthermore, the constitution prohibits the exploitation of Nigeria’s human and natural resources for any reasons other than for the good of the community.”
“Articles 5 and 9 of the UN Convention against Corruption also impose legal obligations on your government to ensure proper management of public affairs and public funds, and to promote sound and transparent administration of public affairs.”
“The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights has adjudged the failure of the States to provide basic services such as electricity as violating the right to health.”
