South-South leaders defend Damagum, say he is committed to democratic processes
Some leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-South geo-political zone on Friday commended the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP for conducting successful congresses in the country.
They also lauded the leadership qualities of the PDP Acting National Chairman, Alhaji Umar Damagum.
‘’Alhaji Umar Damagum is committed to democratic processes and doing exactly what is expected of him as a national chairman” the leaders said after an emergency meeting in Port Harcourt.
The stance of the PDP leaders on the party’s congresses and the performance of Damagum were articulated by the Chairman of the PDP Harmony Group, Chief Desmond Harry.
‘’Alhaji Umar Damagum took over the chairmanship with every understanding of what leadership or management is all about. The party is now more united under Damagum’s leadership’’
The leaders commended the acting national chairman for enhancing political discourse, maintaining a good working relationship with governors, strengthening the democracy within the party, reconciling aggrieved members of the party and winning new electorate in order for PDP to remain an important political force in the country.
‘’Damagum’s grip on internal party matters is unique” the leaders said.
They appealed for an unflinching support and co-operation for him.
“PDP remains committed to the welfare of the people. It is the party of the people, the hope of the people of this country. It needs unity and without it, the party cannot make meaningful progress. We must therefore encourage Damagun to unite all, win Edo and Ondo states for PDP. “
They also urged PDP members in other geo-political zones to devote their energies to solving political problems.
“The PDP Acting National Chairman, Alhaji Umar Damagum is a master at using resources, including human resources, to accomplish goals. He is moving with great zeal and vigour to make the difference” the leaders added.
